We purchased Fancy from our friend, Dee Schroder, who is retiring from breeding donkeys.  Fancy foaled an adorable spotted jennet sired by HHAA Little Much shortly after arriving at Half Ass Acres. We are retaining this foal for our future show and breeding program.

Sadly we lost Fancy to hyperlipedemia on 8/09/24. We are awaiting necropsy results to determine what made her stop eating. She was carrying a solid jack that was due in September. She will be greatly missed.

Fancy is the dam of the following foals:

1) Dee's Little Buddy, 2020/06/12,  Dark Brown Jack, NLP.

2) Dee's Miss Little Much, 2023/04/03, Brown/White Spotted Jennet, we have retained this jennet for our future breeding program, (Sire: HHAA Little Much).

Alanis, Bow's dam, stood Grand National Spotted Jennet the only year we showed her and later she produced a baby even better than she is....a sign of a great brood jennet! Bow was born on her mom's birthday...no wonder she is the spittin' image of her...but even better. She was expertly delivered by Julia and Rhonda Vaughn while they were house-sitting for us when we were away attending Wayne Lyon's Driving Seminar in Texas. A big 'Thank-You' to both Julia and Rhonda for delivering the best spotted jennet ever born on this farm! Also a thanks to Julia for naming her godchild!

We just recently purchased Bow back from her owner who was reducing her herd. She was promised back to us if she was ever sold and we are so happy to have her back. We will let her settle into her old home and we may try for one more foal before we retire her.

Update: On 2/13/23, our vet checked Bow and found her to be open. So we are giving up and retiring her to be best friends with Junebug who recentely lost her best friend Picabo to old age.

Update February 14th, 2024: We had no intentions of selling Bow but she lost her best friend, Junebug,  December 31st, 2023. We received a call from a wonderful home in Franklin, Tennessee about 40 miles away.  Their 23 year old retired jennet had just lost her best friend and was depressed and not eating.  We delivered Bow to her new home right away and both jennets will stay together as best friends from now on.  It was so nice to see both jennets happy again.

Bow is the dam of the following foals:

1) HHAA Pony-Tailed LassPony-Tailed Lass - copyright HAA Miniature Donkeys9/24/07, tailess dark spotted jennet; (former mascot at Half Ass Acres);

2) HHAA Gypsy Heart, 4/13/09, Brown & White Spotted Jennet;

3) HHAA Taste The Rain, 7/31/12, Tyger Spotted Jennet (now a brood jennet at Half Ass Acres)

We were thrilled to add Junebug to our herd. She is built like our ideal donkey. She was Linda Trimnell's very favorite donkey and the very last one she sold when she dispersed her herd due to health reasons. We are flattered that she let Junebug come to live at Half Ass Acres. Please, please don't tell the other donkeys but Junebug is my personal favorite brood jennet (now retired).

Photos and videos were taken October 14th, 2015, at eighteen years of age. Thank you to Katie Randall for her expert handling of Junie during her photo shoot. The Bug was wonderful for her photos but difficult is putting it mildly for her spa treatment. Just ask Katie for details. Junie is slightly spoiled to say the least...first by Linda Trimnell and then by me. Afterall, she is the matriach of our brood jennets and she knows she is numero uno.

Junebug's papers state that she is black with a cross but there is not a hint of a cross showing on her. We will have her papers updated to reflect that.

Junebug has had to have a lot of her teeth pulled and it is very hard to keep weight on her. She is on a special diet of Equine Senior and chopped hay. She is fed daily with a feed bag on her head so the others cannot steal her food. Junie demands that you take it off when she is finished and will not let you forget her.

Junebug and Picabo have become best friends and we will keep them together until they live out the rest of their lives here at Half Ass Acres. Bug Juice was Junebug's last foal that was born in 2017 when Bug was 20 years of age.

Please don't even ask if this jennet is for sale. She is here to stay as long as I am still breathing and can care for her properly.

We found Junebug peacefully gone on the morning of December 31st. It has been almost one year since her best friend, Picabo, passed away. I think Boo came to get her friend after she learned her way around heaven. Junebug was also my mentor's (Linda Trimnell) favorite jennet.  It warms my heart to know they are together again.

Junebug is the dam of the following foals:

1) Sunset Acres Astro, 2/15/02, black jack w/NLP;

2) Sunset Acres Unnamed, March, 2003, deceased jack, (delivered by c-section) by her previous owners. Junebug was allowed to rest and recouperate for five years before she was bred again.
3)HHAA Black 'n' Blue (Bruise)Black 'n; Blue, aka Bruise8/09/08, Blk Herd Sire now in Australia, (Sire: Front & Center);

4) HHAA Jealous Much, 4/06/10, spotted former herdsire & now a gelding, (Sire: Napoleon);

5) HHAA Mirror, Mirror, 4/23/12, Black w/Cross Jennet w/NLP, (Sire: Napoleon);

6) HHAA Takin' Names, 5/02/14, Dark Spotted Gelding, (Sire: Brick);

7) HHAA Bug Juice, 5/08/17, Dark Spotted Jennet, (Sire: Kryptonite);...retained for our breeding program.

Click MDR sign for Miniature Donkey Registry Pedigree Boo's pedigree!

Picabo was owned by our mentors, Ed & Linda Trimnell of Windcrest Acres, since she was a young foal and Linda considered her to be her best producing jennet. When Windcrest Acres went out of business due to health reasons Picabo was sold to Kathy Loudamy at K & K Ranch. Picabo produced many more champions while owned by Kathy and she would have never parted with her except that she was the hardest donkey to catch she had ever encountered. Since Kathy is usually always alone at the barn she offered Boo to me since my husband and I are both retired and we do all of our donkey chores together. I have admired Picabo and her offspring throughout all the years I have been involved in donkeys and I jumped at the chance to own such a fantastic little spotted donkey. I thought I would have no trouble training Miss Picabo to easily be caught.

Day one of owning her: I kept her in a stall and small paddock and gave her a treat every time I passed her but only if she would allow me to put the halter on her. I must have repeated this lesson no less than 50 times that day. Late that afternoon I turned Picabo out in a larger pasture since I was going to be gone all the next day. About an hour later I went to her pasture just to see if I could catch her. Well....... she ran like the wind  before I even got within 30' of her!! She was so far away that she could not have heard me saying 'cookie, cookie'  if I had used a megaphone. A cowboy with a 500' rope could not have lassoed her!! I called Kathy and told her I wanted my money back. Kathy promptly told me that Picabo was my 'diet & weight loss donkey' and she insisted I keep her so that I would be forced to lose weight. At this rate I should weigh about 100 lbs by this time next year. If you are ever this way please stop by for a visit and help me catch Miss Boo so I can worm her and do her little hooves occasionally. All help will be so appreciated. Just consider visiting Picabo and me instead of going to the gym. I will keep you posted on the continuing saga of  "Catch Me If You Can".

"Boo" has retained her great conformation through twelve foals plus due to her refusal to be caught easily. She is square and drafty and she is a long time producer of show quality donkeys with her same outstanding build.

Thank you to The Randall Family for their expert assistance in handling Miss Boo during her photo shoot!! Now you can see why I love her even if she is hard to catch sometimes.

Boo has been retired and is now resting from her last foal born in 2017, Marvel, a dark brown/white spotted jack (later gelded and sold as a pet).  Boo was 23 years of age when she last raised a foal. She has become the best of friends with Junebug and they both will live out their lives here at Half Ass Acres.

Update! Boo is now easy to catch because we started feeding her equine senior daily with a feedbag so the others could not steal her food and she now comes running whenever she sees us!! If only I had thought of that years ago.

Update: Boo and her best friend, Bug, were wintering at our old barn where I could easily blanket them when the temperatures dropped below freezing and their stalls had heat lamps. On the morning of January 20th, 2023, we found that Boo had peacefully taken her last breath at almost 29 years of age. We are going to miss her prissy little trot when she did not want to be touched. She is now in heaven with her beloved previous owner and my mentor, Linda Trimnell. We moved her best friend, Bug, to the arena with our spoiled donkeys so we could give her more attention while she is grieving the loss of her buddy Boo.

Boo has produced the following foals:

1) Windcrest Little Trinket, 6/16/98, a show winning jennet;

2) Windcrest Little Chanelle, 6/02/00, spotted jennet, a show winner;

3) Windcrest Sky's The Limit, 3/29/01, 2002 ACOSA Grand National Champion Jack;

4) Windcrest Over the Top, 8/22/02, Spotted Jack, ACOSA 2 & Under National Champion & ACOSA Reserve National Champion Jack, (Sire: Sunset Acres Hoops);

5) Windcrest April Charm, 4/04/04, dark spotted jennet;.

6) Windcrest Destiny, her 2005 jack foal, and a full brother to April Charm;

7) KKR Tuff Enough, 4/06/07, dark spotted jack with blue eyes, (Sire: Rowdy Yates);

8) KKR Eight Belles, 8/16/08, gray jennet, (Sire: Speedway Racer);

9) KKR Wise Guy, 9/6/10, spotted jack, (Sire: Rowdy Yates);

10) HHAA Whimsy, 5/21/12, brown jennet, (Sire: Bruise);

11) HHAA Bonafide, 4/22/14, spotted show quality gelding, (Sire: Bruise);

12) HHAA Marvel, 1/07/17, spotted gelding, (Sire: Kryptonite);

Boo is no longer offered for sale.  Before she went to
Heaven someone I loved asked me to keep Boo forever.
And I will honor that promise as long as I have my health.

We are so very well pleased with Dolly. She is very correct plus sweet to boot. Dolly was added to our brood jennet band in April of 2016, when she turned four years of age.

Update! Dolly fooled us and foaled a dark brown jennet all on her own just a week after she started bagging up. Dolly has been having some health problems and probably the medicine we have been giving her made her start a bag late.

Photos and videos above were taken on July 17th, 2015, with the help of Katie Randall's expert handling.

We made the decision to have our vet euthanize Dolly after she suffered a long illness from cancer and kept losing weight no matter what we fed her. She was a great little brood jennet and she will be missed.

Dolly is the dam of the following foals:

1) HHAA Rose Tattoo, 4/24/17, Spotted Jennet, (Sire: Black 'n' Blue, a.k.a. Bruise);

2) HHAA Dream of Genie, 9/09/18, Dark Brown Jennet, (Sire: Black 'n' Blue, a.ka. Bruise); (retained in our breeding program.)

3) HHAA First Class, 8/19/20, Dark Brown Jennet, (Sire: Special Delivery "Speedy").

Tinkie is so beautiful that it is a shame she is barren but she has been invaluable as a baby-sitter, show-donkey, and concubine jennet. She has been green-broke to drive. Tinkie is sometimes a pasture buddy for one of our herd sires or she is a super baby sitter when we wean the foals.

We sold Tinkie to a wonderful home in 2006 and she just recently was returned to us because their home has been rezoned. Tinkie had an excellent home because she was returned to us with all of her vaccinations up to date and her teeth floated. We welcome Tinkie back into our home so she can live out the rest of her years at Half Ass Acres.

Tinkie is now over twenty-two years of age and she looks fantastic as you can tell by the photos and videos we took of her in Janaury of 2016. A big special thank you to Katie Randall for handling Tinkie in her photo shoot. That was Tinkie's first trip through our obstacle course and she handled herself almost like a pro.

Update! Tinkie was placed in a wonderful home in Tennessee at the end of 2016 along with another older jennet that belonged to another farm. They have become the very best of friends and we are so happy for Tinkie and her new friend.

Alanis' dam was a 32½" very dark brownish gray who was our most correct brood jennet, Half Ass Acres Christy, and she was sired by our retired spotted jack, Indiana Jones. She is a full sister to Monty, 2003 Grand National Spotted Gelding, and 2004 NMDA Grand National Gelding, and Harley, top 3 Grand National Winner Spotted Jack. Alanis won her class and then stood Grand Champion Spotted Jennet at the Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show for the ACOSA Nationals held July 3rd, 1999.  She was then retired to our brood jennet band.

Strawberry is our most popular jennet because when she brays she sounds like an Opera singer. Everyone wants to hear her bray. We look forward to hearing her bray at feeding time every day. It is a bright spot in our day. We purchased Strawberry from Wit's End Farm. We are so very pleased with this jennet. She is a dark cherry red with near flawless conformation. Strawberry was bred to Windcrest Firefly for a foal due on March 24th, 2010.

Sadly Strawberry was euthanized on 2/9/10 from complications due to botulism poisoning.  A c-section was performed but her red jennet foal was already gone also from lack of oxygen to the uterus. Thank you to all the vets at Tennessee Veterinary Hospital who so valaintly tried to save mom and jennet.  It was a priviledge having Strawberry in our lives. We will forever miss her lyrical 'opera' brays every day for the rest of our lives. We cannot imagine our lives without hearing her musical voice. Now she will be singing in Heaven.

Glorianna has been one of our very best producing jennets. If we had to do it all over again we would have retained every single one of her foals for our herd. Glorianna has truly been worth her weight in gold! Photos above of Glorianna taken on July 10th, 2010, at eighteen years of age and 4 days after delivering her 5th jennet in a row, Paper Tyger! She had a little bit of edema on her belly when we took her photos and videos but it went away when we took her salt away for a few days.

We don't have a record of Glorianna's previous foals but she is the dam of the following foals since we have owned her:

1) HHAA Bedazzled, 5/17/03, very dark brown jennet with NLP; (brood jennet at HAA)

2) HHAA Ma Bell, 9/23/04, dark brown jennet; (now in Austrailia!)

Target has a dark medallion 'bullseye' star in the middle of her forehead that is very striking. There was only one name for her....Target! She is a very unusual and rare dark cherry red color with some roaning throughout her coat. She is one of our favorite jennets. Target has been retired from our brood jennet band. She deserves to live out the rest of her life free from the job of raising foals. We would consider letting her go to the perfect pet home along with her best friend, Mink. E-mail or call if interested.

Zelda came to live at Half Ass Acres so that her last foal, Dream Big, would have a traveling companion all the way from Nebraska. Zelda is the dam of three jennets that we own and the grand dam of two of our herd sires. Photos and videos above were taken on January 20th, 2013, in her long, winter, sun-bleached coat at nearly 19 years of age. Zelda has the most beautiful pair of eyes you have ever seen...one is brown and the other is amber or blue depending upon how the light hits it.

Zelda still looks fantastic for a nineteen year old. She is a very sweet and laid-back jennet that is easy to love. Unfortunately Zelda went blind in her beautiful left eye but she has been placed in a wonderful 'forever' pet home in Atlanta, Indiana.

Sheena is one of our smallest plus sweetest jennets. The photos above of Sheena were taken at the age of 20 right after she had foaled her 12th baby, Heart Strings. We exposed Sheena to Windcrest Firefly all summer long this year and she kept coming back in season. We think she may want to retire from the baby business. We might place her in a pet home if we can find one good enough for her. Sheena is a very special jennet and we have had her longer than any other donkey on our place. If we can't find the perfect home for her she can just live her life out here at Half Ass Acres.

Sheena is up to date on all vaccinations including West Nile and Botulism. She has a negative coggins report dated 1/09/12. She has recently had her teeth floated. She is super easy to catch and handle. We want her to go to a special pet home where she will get individual attention and be loved on daily. Sheena still has a long life ahead of her as donkeys may live up to 40 years or even longer! Penny, our oldest jennet, is over 35 and still going strong. We think she is going to outlive even us!

We had Sheena tested for pregnancy on 1/3/12, by an exterior ultra-sound machine used by a veterinarian and she tested negative.

She is the dam of the following foals:

1) Half Ass Acres Whitney Houston,9/19/93, brown jennet;
2) Half Ass Acres Michael Jordon, 9/19/94, brown/gray jack;
3) Half Ass Acres James Brown, light red jack foaled in 1995;
